An Alternative Movie: Martian Child

One of my favorite airplane movie finds is Martian Child. It’s such a stellar movie! I introduced my roommates to it last week and it is now a new house favorite.

The movie is about Denis, a little boy who thinks he is from Mars, and David, the widowed Science fiction writer who adopts him. What follows is their adjustment to each other with all the awkward and humorous interaction that entails. As you might imagine, journeys to another planet are filled with both fascination and terror – and Denis’s experience is fully plenty of both! The choreographed Martian conversations, UV precautions, dietary restrictions, and battles with Earth’s gravity will have you rolling in the aisle. And it gets bonus points for being highly quotable! Sure, there is a bit of romance along the way, but the plot centers around these two major characters and examines what I like to call a true love story: real-to-life love stories without the side of fairytale. You won’t be disappointed.
